Congo on the Come Up

Time to go for the gold, better yet platinum
Across the globe stand for Congo, takin’ action
Said we couldn’t do it, couldn’t let the world know
That everywhere they go they carry the congo
They carry congo in phones and laptops
Electronics provide the backdrop
For war, the poor caught up in the struggle
Too many round the world living life in a bubble
Ignorance is bliss and our enemies know that
They know you think Congo is savage and whack
So we made a new story, switched up the flow
Had to follow the money comin out of Congo
To show your schools were part of the problem
To show you your jewels came from pillage and robbin’
Now Robin, Chriqui, students and others
Have come to tell you Congo won’t be torn asunder

There’s a fire burnin’ up inside of me
Ain’t gon’ take a breath til the people see
We the ones who’ll make the world conflict free
Congo is the key to our humanity

A movement has sprung up, Congo’s on the come up
Voices ain’t just from the West listen up
It’s easy to think the Congolese ain’t fightin
For peace in the east, for a future that’s brightened
From Fidel Bafilemba to Amani Mataboro
Denise Siwatula to Petna Ndaliko
Congolese are fightin’ every day to be free
Fightin’ for their kids to have a new destiny
Raisin’ hope for clean supply chains
Wedding rings shouldn’t come from people slain
A conflict-free country, makin progress
Almost 200 schools changin’ their campus
Wall Street reform bill changin’ the tide
Cause now we got the U.S. government on our side
But there’s so much more to do, we still need you
To show the world that Congolese are human too

There’s a fire burnin’ up inside of me
Ain’t gon’ take a breath til the people see
We the ones who’ll make the world conflict free
Congo is the key to our humanity

So right now you can call your politicians
Call apple, call Dell, they gotta listen
You’re part of a movement and now is the time
We all got a roll to play in saving lives
You don’t wanna get out and march it’s all good
Tweet out a message from your neighborhood
Demand that your campus be conflict free
Make your local jeweler care for humanity
Most important day is the day you were born
The next day is when you see why you were born
This might be your time to shine you never know
Just get out and do somethin’ now for Congo
Workin’ with the Congolese will end this crisis
Elevate your mind and maybe you might just
Get involved in the fight for survival
Congo needs you to have a real revival

There’s a fire burnin’ up inside of me
Ain’t gon’ take a breath til the people see
We the ones who’ll make the world conflict free
Congo is the key to our humanity
